Die Stiftung bezweckt die Förderung der Krebsforschung nach Massgabe der folgenden testamentarischen Verfügungen von Frau Dr. med. Dora Seif: Jedes zweite Jahr soll an meinem Todestag die beste Arbeit, die zur Verbesserung der Frühdiagnostik und Therapie (Vorbeugung und Verhütung) des Krebses beiträgt, von den Zinsen des Kapitals, prämiert und im Hörsaal des Bürgerspitals vorgetragen (werden). Ausserdem soll der goldene Ring mit dem Bergkristall ein 'Krebswanderring' werden. Jeder prämierte Wissenschafter soll ihn 'leihweise' zum Tragen bekommen, bis der nächste prämiert wird, also 2 Jahre lang. Erst derjenige, der die Ursache des Krebses und die entsprechende Therapie erfinden wird, soll den Ring mit einer entsprechenden Urkunde von der Stiftung geschenkt bekommen.
