Die Room to Read-Einheiten arbeiten zusammen mit lokalen Gemeinden, Partnerorganisationen und Regierungen für eine nachhaltige Verbesserung der Lesefähigkeiten und der Lesegewohnheiten von Primarschülern, und auch für eine Entwicklung und Bereitstellung von Infrastruktur und guten Unterrichtsmaterialien, welche diese Ziele weiter fördern werden. Die Room to Read-Einheiten unterstützen auch Mädchen darin, die Mittelschule mit den nötigen Lebenskompetenzen für ein erfolgreiches Leben während und nach der Schule abzuschliessen. Der Verein verfolgt weder kommerzielle Zwecke noch Selbsthilfezwecke und ist nicht gewinnorientiert. Der Verein ist politisch sowie religiös neutral.
