Die Stiftung bezweckt die Förderung von Lehre, Forschung und Versorgung am Universitäts-Spital Zürich (USZ) oder an Betrieben mit Mehrheitsbeteiligung des USZ. Sie unterstützt die Weiterentwicklung von Technologien und Innovationen mit dem Ziel, den Patienten am USZ neue und verbesserte Behandlungsmethoden anbieten zu können. Die damit verbundene Nachwuchsförderung soll durch die Stiftung ebenfalls unterstützt werden können. Dazu gehören auch Forschungsaufenthalte. So werden exzellente Fachkräfte ausgebildet, die in Zukunft im Dienste der Patienten stehen und Spitzenmedizin ermöglichen. Die Stiftung verfolgt weder Erwerbs- noch Selbsthilfezwecke. Die Stifterin behält sich die Änderung des Stiftungszweckes gemäss Art. 86a ZGB durch Beschluss des Spitalrates vor. Der Zweck hat dabei ein gemeinnütziger zu bleiben.
