L'Association a pour objet de promouvoir les droits des personnes handicapées, grâce à l'union des voix de différentes organisations de personnes handicapées. L'Association défendra en particulier le recours à la Convention relative aux droits des personnes handicapées (la « CDPH »), et veillera à ce que le Programme 2030 des Nations Unies ainsi que d'autres instruments relatifs aux droits de l'homme et au développement humain soient conformes à la CDPH. Grâce à son réseau unique réunissant les principales organisations de personnes handicapées internationales et régionales, l'Association constitue la meilleure représentation des personnes handicapées à l'échelle mondiale. L'objectif de l'Association consiste à représenter le mouvement mondial des personnes handicapées, en encourageant les organisations de personnes handicapées au niveau national à rejoindre les organisations mondiales et régionales qui sont des Membres effectifs de l'Association, ainsi qu'en invitant les organisations-cadres de personnes handicapées au niveau national qui partagent les objectifs et principes de l'Association à devenir des Membres associés de l'Association au niveau national. L'Association a pour vision de créer une société qui valorise la diversité, qui respecte l'égalité, et qui permette aux personnes handicapées de réaliser leur plein potentiel afin de créer un monde meilleur pour tous.
