Als Gemeinschaftswerk aus der langjährigen Pizzeria-Tradition der Terra-Vecchia, Gemeinschaft zum Schlüssel, herausgewachsen, hat der Mercato Aarberg zwei Schwerpunkte: Er bietet Therapieabsolventen sowie andern, in ihrer Existenz namentlich von Arbeitslosigkeit und Invalidität bedrohten Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen für kürzere oder längere Zeit Arbeitsmöglichkeiten im Rahmen einer Tagesstruktur an mit dem Ziel der beruflichen Rehabilitation und sozialen Verselbständigung. Er hat als Grundlage die Struktur einer wirtschaftlich und fachkompetent geführten Unternehmung und strebt - zusammen mit der psychosozialen Zielsetzung - einen ganzheitlichen Betrieb an. Durch das Führen des Mercato-Ladens und -restaurants in Aarberg verbunden mit der Herstellung, Vermittlung und dem Verkauf von gesunden, qualitativ hochstehenden Lebensmitteln leistet der Mercato einen Beitrag an die Förderung von Wohlbefinden und Genuss unter den Menschen. Die Stiftung hat gemeinnützigen Charakter.
