  • Starting a sole proprietorship in Switzerland

Anyone wishing to set up a company in Switzerland is spoilt for choice because there are many different legal forms available. One of the most popular forms is the sole proprietorship, which is particularly suitable for small businesses with highly person-related activities. A sole proprietorship is easily founded but the owner is liable with the private assets.

    Advantages of a sole proprietorship

Capital: There are no conditions on the starting capital.

Entry in the commerical register:  Only mandatory for a commercial company that achieves an annual turnover of at least CHF 100'000 according to HRegV 36. But we always recommend an entry in the commercial register for transparancy.

Administration: The administrative effort is relatively low compared to other legal forms.

    Requirements for a sole proprietorship

Founders: One individual is required as a business owner. Whether the residence must be in Switzerland varies from canton to canton.

Liability: The owner is liable without limitation with his/her private assets.

Company name: The company name must contain the owner's surname. Activities or imaginative descriptions are possible as an addition to the name.

You can see all requirements and rules in our legal forms overview.
